Your Guide to Things to Do in Albertville This August 2026

For twenty years, an Albertville Thursday-night errand run followed a predictable arc. Drop a package at the post office on Main Ave NE, swing through Coborn's for the week, and if the weather held, wander the outlet mall loop until someone was hungry enough to sit down at The Hen & The Hog. Costco meant a thirty-minute drive to Maple Grove or a longer one to St. Cloud. That map is about to shift, and it's happening in a single week in the middle of August.

The corner of the town that residents used to think of as the far edge, out past the Labeaux Avenue outlet parking lots and toward the Otsego line, is turning into the busiest square mile in Wright County. The pieces are all landing at once. This post walks through what's actually opening, what's finishing up, and what the practical rhythm looks like for someone who already lives here.

The Aug. 14 Anchor

The area's first Costco is set to open Aug. 14, 2026 on the Otsego–Albertville line, with the warehouse coming in at more than 160,000 square feet, plus a members-only fuel station and a large parking area. The fuel station is expected to open roughly a month ahead of the main store. Address-wise, the site sits at the northwest corner of 60th Street NE and MacIver Avenue NE, right off Interstate 94, which puts it about a five-minute drive from downtown Albertville and about ninety seconds from the outlet parking lots.

For anyone who's been sitting in the Maple Grove Costco parking lot on a Saturday morning, the timing matters. Elk River economic development director Brent O'Neil told the Monticello Times that the Maple Grove Costco is the busiest location in Minnesota and Coon Rapids is second, and he expects the Otsego store to pull traffic away from both. A typical warehouse of that size employs between 200 and 400 workers, which is a hiring number the STMA labor market has not absorbed all at once in a while.

Memberships start at $65 a year, with the Executive tier at $130, and residents who want to shop the opening morning can sign up in advance at the Rogers location or online. Rogers has been the closest option for card renewals for years, so if there's an obvious errand to run before Aug. 14, that's it.

What's Happening 500 Feet Across the Line

The Costco is only half the story on that corner. A roughly 21,000-square-foot ALDI has been approved just across the street, over the city line back into Albertville, planned near Mackenzie Avenue NE and 60th Street NE, next to Emma's Express and Just for Kix Dance School. Its timeline is being coordinated alongside the Costco project, which means the two grocery anchors are effectively being staged as a single retail node rather than two separate openings.

That's the piece that's easy to miss. Albertville has a Coborn's on Main Ave NE and a Cub in St. Michael, and both have carried the weekly grocery run for a long time. Adding a Costco plus an ALDI within a two-minute drive of each other, on the east edge of town, gives residents a real four-store choice for the first time. The families who split their week between a warehouse run and a smaller top-off shop no longer have to leave the STMA footprint to do it.

The Road That Had to Get Built First

None of this works if County Road 137 can't move the cars. The road project running through this stretch has been the daily annoyance of the year for anyone commuting to I-94, and it's finally on the back half.

Here's the sequence, as the City of Otsego and Wright County have it laid out:

  • Fall 2025 through early 2026: phase-one roadwork and roundabout staging along CR 137
  • Spring 2026 into summer: Stage 2 reconstruction of the corridor from the I-94 ramps to east of Lymon Avenue, with temporary bypass lanes keeping CR 137 open through most of the work
  • Mid-August 2026: stage-2 wrap, followed by trail and restoration work through late October
  • Late 2026: final sidewalks, trails, and restoration

The order matters. Road improvements were prioritized alongside the Costco build because the corridor couldn't absorb warehouse traffic on the old alignment. So the ribbon-cutting on Aug. 14 lands almost exactly when the road it depends on is finishing its heaviest phase. If you've been avoiding that stretch in July, the last two weeks of August are the first time in a year and a half you can just drive it.

The Outlet Mall Quietly Reinvented Itself, Too

While all of the above was consuming the planning meetings, the Albertville Premium Outlets have been rotating tenants in a way that's easy to miss if you only walk the loop once a season. The property still runs Monday through Thursday 10 to 8, Friday and Saturday 10 to 9, Sunday 11 to 7, across roughly 65-plus stores on an 80-acre footprint.

The recent additions worth knowing about:

  • Ulta Beauty, which opened in July 2025 on the north side of the property near Trendica, gives the center its first full beauty retailer at that scale
  • OFFLINE by Aerie and Auntie Anne's, both open, and Ann Taylor and LOFT, announced to open under the same wave
  • Longstanding anchors that keep the mall's original draw intact: Coach Outlet, Michael Kors, lululemon, The North Face, Nike Factory, Polo Ralph Lauren, Under Armour, Levi's, Kate Spade

The rotation matters because for a stretch there, the outlet loop felt like it was thinning. The addition of a beauty anchor plus two Ann Inc. brands pulls back the traffic that had drifted toward the Twin Cities Premium Outlets in Eagan. Combined with a Costco parking lot arriving next door, the whole east-edge cluster starts to function as a single destination rather than an outlet mall with a highway ramp next to it.

What Still Anchors the Rest of the Week

None of this replaces the parts of Albertville that keep the week running. Friday-night dinner at The Hen & The Hog on Kyler Ave NE still looks the same, and the kitchen is open until 11 p.m. on Fridays, with Saturday brunch from 8 to 2 and Sunday brunch the same. Main Street Farmer Eatery, Si Senor, B&B Craft Bar & Eatery, and D. Michael B's Resort Bar & Grill continue to hold the sit-down slots most weeknight regulars know by heart.

The June rhythm was intact too. Friendly City Days ran June 10 through 14, 2026 at Central Park, with the carnival, citywide garage sales, the STMA Boys High School Hockey Pork Chop Dinner at the Farmers' Market Shelter, line dance lessons at St. Albert's Parish Center, the Everett Smithson Band and Slamabama on the main stage, and fireworks at 10 p.m. Friday over the ballfields. The Friendly City Days 5K finished at the STMA Middle School West track with proceeds to the Chad Smith Run for Life and the STMA CC teams.

Those anchors are worth naming because they explain why the east-edge shift doesn't feel like a takeover. The community calendar still runs through Central Park, St. Albert's, and Main Ave. What the Costco corner adds is a weekday errand map, not a replacement social center.

How the New Map Actually Reads

Here's the practical shift for a typical week, framed against what the same errands looked like a year ago:

Errand Summer 2025 Late August 2026
Warehouse grocery Drive to Maple Grove or St. Cloud 5 minutes to CR 137 and MacIver
Discount grocery top-off Cub in St. Michael or Coborn's ALDI on Mackenzie Ave NE, once open
Beauty run Maple Grove or Rogers Ulta at the outlets
Friday sit-down dinner The Hen & The Hog Unchanged
Weekend outlet browse Coach, Nike, Michael Kors loop Same loop plus Ann Taylor, LOFT, OFFLINE
Getting to I-94 westbound Detour around CR 137 work Direct, after mid-August

The change is the compression. Five separate drives collapse into one east-side loop, and most of that loop finishes up in a two-week window between Aug. 14 and Labor Day. That's the read on late summer 2026 in Albertville: not a new town, just a new center of gravity for the parts of the week that used to require leaving it.
